Our Homestead

Come SeeMyGardenWelcome to our Homestead! Nearly 20 acres of woods, prairie and homesteading land. Our cozy log cabin sits at the top of the hill, surrounded by our outdoor livestock, our 18 raised bed garden, our 12 tree orchard and more wildlife than you can imagine.

Currently at our neck of the woods, we:

  • feed the hungry one mason jar at a time. When I have enough food to donate, I gift to the local food banks.
  • challenge your garden to be the best. Submit your garden pics to our Facebook page!
  • raise chickens and ducks for eggs and meat. They also eat the ticks in our yard…yeah!
  • are learning how to use solar lights for a portion of our electricity.
  • currently heat our home with chopped wood from our property.
  • reuse materials for items needed on our property including a bathroom and a patio made from stones we found!
  • home-school our kids using our life experience to educate them beyond the classroom, encouraging them to find their happiness as early in life as possible.
  • influence families everywhere to eat healthier, reduce waste and live out your fantasy, homestead based life.

Who told you that you have to shop for your food? Talk with us about growing 50% of your food in your own backyard, preserving it, canning it and cooking it. We are not experts by any means, but we are learning a great deal as we live our new lives on our homestead farm. We can share with you what we know!

So far this year (2014) our garden has produced tomatoes, potatoes, peppers, spinach, lettuce, sunflowers, pumpkins, cucumbers, squash, asparagus, onions, garlic, cilantro, grapes, strawberries, melons, peas, carrots, green beans, broccoli and zucchini.

Our orchard has produced peaches, pears and apples.

We have been able to forge for blackberries, wild raspberries, honeysuckle and many other naturally growing medicinal plants.

We are elated!
